    A dirt footpath, gently sloping down.
    During the summertime riverside is lined with
    temporary elevated wooden terraces.
  3. Miyagawa-cho
    Less crowded Geisha District.
  4. Gion
    Most popular and the largest Geisha District,
    less crowded in the early morning.
  5. Yasaka Pagoda
    Most visible and recognizable landmarks in Kyoto.
  6. Chion-in Temple
    Head temple of the Jodo sect of
    Japanese Buddhism with massive wooden gate.
  7. Shirakawa Sosui Canal
    Peaceful and beautiful canal,
    water runs from Nanzenji Temple to Gion.
    Lined on both sides with willow trees.
  8. Heian-Jingu Shrine
    Built in 1895 on the occasion of the 1100th
    anniversary of the capital’s foundation in Kyoto.
  9. Nanzenji Temple
    Most important Japanese Zen Temple.
  10. Path of Philosophy
    2km long, pleasant long path and follows a canal.
  11. Honen-in Temple precinct
    Small independent temple.
    The thatched roof of the gate is covered with moss,
    tucked away in the Mt. Nyoigatake,
    removed and calm atmosphere.
  12. Demachi Delta
    Where the Takano and Kamogawa rivers meet
    and popular spot for splashing in the water,
    sunbathing and picnickers.
  13. Kyoto Imperial Palace and Park
    Used to be the residence of Japan’s Imperial Family until 1868.

The Riverside Ride

This ride opens both morning and afternoon.

You can enjoy biking a footpath
on the river bank lined with grassy banks,
flowering trees and birds in the water
and entering the Japanese Zen garden at Daitokuji Temple,
located off the beaten track of the city.

  6. Daitokuji Temple
    ※ Enter to one of Zen gardens
    Large walled temple complex with two dozen subtemples.
    Best place to see Zen gardens.
  7. Kamo River
    Gently sloping down a dirt footpath,
    Mt. Hiei and Mt. Daimonjiyama can be seen
    from the riverbank.
